Snail Hunting ensues as the spring rains fall in the Netherlands.  The snails are back and so is SHI!  Here are some pics that I took over the last two weeks.

Happy Easter from SHI!

Spotted the first snail of the season today as I walked home from school.  Up until a week ago we had snow on the ground and frozen lakes and canals here in the Netherlands.  Some of the lakes still have a little ice on them.  So I was quite surprised to see this little guy just resting there on the sidewalk.  Temperatures were in the 50's (F) this afternoon. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me and I don't have a bluetooth device for my cell phone so here's a picture of my cell phone instead. As the snails become more active so shall SHI after our winter break.

Thanks to Neely Gillcrist for this awesome picture of Periwinkles in Saint Martins, New Brunswick.  We counted 3 of them in the pic.  Periwinkels are a type of marine gastropod mollusk.  SHI is mainly dedicated to garden variety snails, but these Periwinkels sure are pretty.

Special thanks to Demelza in NZ for these beautiful snail pictures!
