First Snail of the Year! 02/23/2012
Spotted the first snail of the season today as I walked home from school. Up until a week ago we had snow on the ground and frozen lakes and canals here in the Netherlands. Some of the lakes still have a little ice on them. So I was quite surprised to see this little guy just resting there on the sidewalk. Temperatures were in the 50's (F) this afternoon. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me and I don't have a bluetooth device for my cell phone so here's a picture of my cell phone instead. As the snails become more active so shall SHI after our winter break.  Snail Hunting in Canada! 12/25/2011
Thanks to Neely Gillcrist for this awesome picture of Periwinkles in Saint Martins, New Brunswick. We counted 3 of them in the pic. Periwinkels are a type of marine gastropod mollusk. SHI is mainly dedicated to garden variety snails, but these Periwinkels sure are pretty.
